On April 25, 2025, a significant step was taken towards securing safe drinking water for the residents of Seebu Guda village, located within Makavaram Panchayat of Munchingiput Mandal. An Engineering Feasibility Study (EFS) was conducted to assess the implementation of a Sump with Gravity-Fed Water Supply System (GFWSS), utilizing the village’s available perennial spring water sources. Understanding the Sump with Gravity System The Sump with Gravity System is particularly suited for areas where traditional borewell installations are unfeasible. This system leverages natural spring sources situated at lower elevations relative to the village. The primary components include: 1. Perennial Spring Source: A consistent water source located below the village’s elevation. 2. Collection Sump: Constructed near the spring to gather and store water. 3. Electrical Motor Connection: Facilitates water movement from the sump to the storage tank. 4. Elevated Storage Tank: Positioned above the village to allow gravity-based distribution. 5. Street-Based Stand Posts: Provide accessible water points throughout the village. The Feasibility Study Process An experienced civil engineer led the feasibility study, focusing on: • Elevation Analysis: Assessing the gradient between the spring source and the village to ensure effective gravity flow. • Pipeline Requirements: Determining the necessary pipe sizes and alignment for optimal water delivery. • Spring Discharge Calculation: Measuring the water output from the spring to confirm it meets the village’s daily needs. This comprehensive analysis ensures the proposed system’s technical viability and sustainability. Community Engagement and Participation The study actively involved the Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC) and the Village Development Committee (VDC). Community meetings were organized to: • Discuss Shram Dhan: Encouraging voluntary labor contributions from villagers. • Explain Gram Nidhi: Detailing the utilization of village funds for the project’s implementation. • Gather Historical Insights: Collecting information on the spring source’s history and reliability from long-term residents. Next Steps Following the feasibility study, the VWSC submitted a formal request to the Panchayat Sarpanch, seeking a resolution to proceed with the project’s implementation. Additionally, an application was addressed to the Navanirmana Samithi (Reconstruction Committee) to secure necessary approvals and support. The successful completion of this feasibility study marks a pivotal move towards enhancing Seebu Guda’s water infrastructure, ensuring safe and reliable drinking water for its residents
