Field Visit to Mettaguda, Bija Kuda, and Thummidi Puttu Villages – Promoting Community Participation in Water and Sanitation On 06-05-2025, Ms. J. Kumari and I (Trinadh garu) conducted a field visit to three villages—Mettaguda, Bija Kuda, and Thummidi Puttu—as part of our efforts to strengthen community involvement in water and sanitation activities.
Activities Conducted
1. Awareness Through Wall Charts
In each village, we, along with the Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC) members and local villagers, pasted five different charts on the walls. These charts contained important information about:
Roles of VWSC members
Safe drinking water practices
Hygiene and sanitation
Importance of water testing
Prevention of waterborne diseases.
To make the information clear to all, the charts were read aloud by the VWSC members in the presence of villagers. This encouraged transparency and helped the villagers understand the importance of clean water and good hygiene.
2. Updating Records
We checked the existing records maintained by the VWSC in all three villages. We updated the necessary information in the registers, including water source data and maintenance details, ensuring everything is well documented for future reference.
3. Water Quality Testing
To ensure the safety of drinking water, we conducted seven types of water quality tests in all three villages. These tests included:
pH level
Turbidity
Fluoride content
Iron levels
Nitrate presence
Bacterial contamination
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
All the test results were entered in the official registers, helping the committee keep track of water safety and take corrective actions if needed.
